Birnam Village & The Birnam Oak

Birnam Oak
Birnam is home to the magnificent Birnam Oak. The Oak, alongside the Birnam sycamore, are thought to be the only trees left from the once expansive forest that covered the area. In Macbeth, the forest played an important part, Birnam Wood ideally camouflaged the army fighting Macbeth.

With its medieval appearance, The Birnam Oak is gnarled and hollowed and undoubtedly a beautiful sight to see. In fact, it features in the top 100 Scottish Heritage Trees.

The famous Oak can be seen along the Birnam Walk as well as other impressive trees along the way, the trail takes you along the river from where you can see much wildlife.
